Munich or München is the capital city of Bavaria. As Bavaria is semi-autonomous, it is its seat of government and the center of commerce. For World War II, Munich is associated with the Nazi movement and its gradual rise to power. Much of this past is gone and it is now home to many world class breweries and corporations.
Besides this, it is the capital of the only German state with such strong ties to traditional culture. You will find people in Liederhosen and tons of traditional food. There are still beer halls and there are still giant plates of food. The old city can be walked within 3 hours as it is not very big. But Munich can be enjoyed just as much in a warm brewery with a plate filled with Wurst.
