Taizhong is literally “Central Taiwan”. It may not be central as in the middle of the Island, but it is central for the populated Western Coast. One of the largest cities in Taiwan, Taizhong is a gateway to many sites in the center. Also, most of the trains pass through to go south. It is a major city, but it still feels small. Due to a major earthquake, Taizhong has a much more modern and western look than its counterparts.
High rises and bright lights really show the huge difference between the old and new. You won’t find much history here, but you will find a laid-back lifestyle unfamiliar in the other cities.
